| The commission for Hyperdrive the new BBC2 scifi comedy came from some friends who are specialists in prosthetic makeup. The run a company called Hybrid and the work they do is spectacular. | |
The brief was to produce a string of flashing LED's (Super bright) to be embedded in a transparent prosthetic spine. They would sequence at a number of speeds and effects to simulate differing moods. The spine was for the character Sandstrom who is supposed to be an augmented human being that runs the ships flight deck. The character was supposed to be ill and the "DIGI SPINE" needed repairing. |
Using a picaxe chip I made the smallest circuit possible as this had to be hidden in the close fitting costume the actor wears. |
Finally I spent a few hours getting to the stage where I could solder hair thin copper wire onto surface mount super bright led's (No mean feat) so that there was a string of 8 led's that could be embedded in the silicone spine by Hybrid.
